Weather has been great this past week in San Diego. Super clear blue skies with light winds. Waves have been a bit on the small side but have been really clean.
Hilights of Christmas Eve were surfing some 1-2 ' waves out front, the petting zoo at the Calvary Chapel and the great dinner with family at Holly and Dave's house.
Petting zoo was interesting. The premise is you put 15 or so small farm animals in a little pen and let kids run around chasing, poking and prodding them. Nice experience for the kids but let's just say I am glad I wasn't brought into this world as a duck.

Kaiel's NSSA Jr. longboard heat was scheduled for 7:30 AM up in Newport Beach. Yuck. That means we had to leave our house in San Diego by 6AM. Hardly seemed fair considering it is a Saturday.
Surf was pretty small but it looked fun for shortboarding. Kaiel got a lot of waves but he is still going up against the 17 and 18 year olds so it was basically an "experience" heat.
After his heat we stopped for a quick healthy breakfast at Denny's and then we hit up the Etnies Skatepark. The "Skull Bowl" still had a bit of ash covering it from the Santiago fire. Kaiel got tired of getting ash in his eyes and mouth after every run so he decided to sweep it up a bit.
He dropped into the deep end of the Skull Bowl today for the first time. Dad still ops for dropping into the shallow end.

The sunsets have been incredible. The winds are starting to die and the air is clearing just a little bit.
Unfortunately everything is still covered in about 1/2 inch of ash and soot which is all ending up in the ocean. It will take a while until things are back to normal in San Diego. UCSD has been closed for the week and Kaiel's high school has also closed down due to poor air quality.

Insane Santa Ana winds have kicked in and we are having some pretty serious wildfires thoroughout the county. Our friends in Ramona have been evacuated and even here on the coast the air quality is horrible. The above pic was taken from our balcony this morning.

Kaiel is getting absolutely worked in his first year of high school cross country.
Every time we pick him up he is red faced and grumpy. Coach Gordy works the kids pretty hard.
I hope this doesn't scare Kaiel away from running although I bet surf team sounds pretty good to him right now.

I was succesful in installing and configuring BlogEngine.net on my ISP account. Took some doing and some support requests but it seems to be working great.
Now to try to change the look and feel of this.
